Should an AI send your proposals? How to choose your review settings

Fully automatic, review everything, or somewhere in between. A practical way to decide how much control to keep.

The honest answer to "should an AI send my proposals?" is: it depends on how much you trust the drafts and how costly a bad one is. Good tools let you decide per task rather than all or nothing.

Three levels of control

  1. Review everything. Every proposal waits for your approval. Slowest, safest, and the right place to start.
  2. Review by tool. Let low-risk actions, such as drafting and scoring, run on their own, and keep proposals or client messages behind approval.
  3. Fully automatic. The agent submits on its own within limits you set, and you read the log afterwards.

A sensible way to start

Begin with review on. Read the first twenty drafts, edit what you would not say yourself, and notice what you keep changing. When you stop making edits, loosen the settings for that agent only.

Use limits as a second safety net

Even with automation on, cap how many proposals an agent can send per run and per day. A mistake then costs a handful of Connects, not a whole week's budget.

Remember the platform's rules

You are responsible for what is sent from your account. Check the Upwork Help Center for the current rules on proposals and messaging, and make sure your settings respect them.

How it works here. Each tool, including proposals and messaging, can run on its own or wait in the Approvals page with a fit score and a log of what the agent did. You can edit a draft before approving it.
